Lost in Translation

A common Kazakh girl's name is "Камшат", pronounced "cumshot". And on the authority of Kaldybai Bektaev's massive Nararbaev-endorsed Kazakh-Russian dictionary, it means "beaver".

Lest we not forget, the Spanish word for "beaver" is "Castor". :)

Also of interest: the Welsh word for the Welsh language is "cymraeg", which one pronouces as "cumrag".

Of course, you can stay in the U.S. and find similar problems without bothering with any language barriers, such as the midwest chain of convenience stores "Kum 'N Go."
